How about this for a SHOCKER
YIKES, I know!!! I was having BAD cramps while up in Michigan, thought it was the normal monthly thing, but they completely wiped me out and I took a 4 hour nap, woke up and they had not eased!! Soo I thought I would take a preg. test to rule that out...the next morning, i took one and it was Positive...i sat and cried and cried!! I was clearly warned by my surgeon not to get pregnant within the first 18 months post op, because the baby would carry to term and not make it! :(
I was scheduled to have an IUD put in place December 2nd...was very sick and decided to put it off till the new year when i felt better, because i did not want to deal with the pain alongside not feeling good!!! The next day, I was diagnosed with pneumonia, which was why i felt so sick...and between that time I got pregnant!!! I took the official test at the naval hospital yesterday and it came back positive! We have alot of things going on right now, which makes this the worst time possible to have a baby, BUT what do ya do?!?! I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason, sometimes we are left, saying "why now" but god has a plan and his plan is to bring another miracle into the world!!! Soo now I am terrifed to face my surgeon, because he will not be nice to me, probably bring me to tears, but after all I am an adult and it is what it is!!! He has created a "hottie" and my hubby can't keep his hands off me...lol
After the initial shock wore off, we are very excited!! I am just scared to death as far as my nutrition and bringing in a healthy baby, but also trying to keep me healthy despite the cir****tances!!! I think now more than EVER I really need the support from my great friends to carry me through this and have a safe, successful, positive pregnancy!!! I have lost 158lbs. in 10 months, and have 42lbs. left to my goal and just hope that I can in the end still be successful when this is all over!! With each pregnancy i have had, I have had health problems evolve and major weight gain, but today I am actually at my healthiest weight than I was with my other two and am overall healthier, I just hope that the gastric does not hinder anything!!
But yeah..how is that for a shocker...LOL I will keep yall posted, as of now the due date is August 31st.....I'm gonna have a little babyyyyyyyyy :)
My surgeon told me they have had people get pregnant as soon as two months after surgery. It happens, and your surgeon should support you with getting you the proper nutrition and care you need to have a healthy pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about him scolding you, because if he does he is not being professional or realistic.

Jami,
First of all... CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm know that you didn't plan or even want to have a baby right now, but as you say these things happen for a reason. Now that you are expecting, please be sure to contact your surgeon asap to ensure that you get all the nutritional support and supplementation you need to ensure your own health. The overwhelming likelyhood is that the baby will take what it needs, so you need to protect yourself with optimal nutritional support. I'd also talk to the Drs at the Naval Hospital to see if they have any OBs that have experience with post bariatric patients.
ENJOY!!

You will be fine. You are so healthy now. Just think how cute you will look pregnant!!! My daughter is due 4/1/08 and hasn't gained any weight. She eats like it's going out of style, but she does eat healthy. She's slightly overweight and like Barbara said, the baby will take what he/she needs. Good Luck and keep us informed!!!
